Winner of the EUROPEAN ALUMINIUM AWARD 2012
MERO Italiana won an international contract contest to build the new coal storage centers of ENEL. The two twin domes with a diameter of 144 m and 49 m in height, with columns only on the perimeter, are the biggest domes in Europe presently. As the two domes are located only 20 m from the coast of the Mediterranean, this means a high salt content in the air.
MERO Italiana used an internationally patented connection method consisting of stainless steel nodes and aluminum members for the first time in such a mediterranean environment. Mero Italiana has done the design, project and fabrication management as well as the erection.
